P.C. Jazz Ensemble presents free concerts

The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble will present free concerts at noon Wednesday, May 26, in the Pirate Union Building and at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, in the college’s Little Theater. The college is at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. The noon concert will be about an hour and the evening concert will have an expanded play list.

New to the Jazz Ensemble is vocalist Stacy Hopkins, who will sing tunes associated with Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi.

Instrumentalists include Bob Bailey, Andy Geiger, Kevin MacCartney and Josh Chrisman, on sax; Devin Spade and George Snyder on trumpet; Leung Kui Shing on piano; Mike Kochanek on bass; and Tor Brandes on drums. Director David Jones also will play piano.

The concerts include the music of John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, A.C. Jobim and the Jazz Messengers.
