Reading President Jimmy Carter’s book “A Remarkable Mother” has taken Sequim’s Carol Swarbrick-Dries on an incredible journey.

She’s worked five years with her husband Jim Dries and writer Jeff Scott researching Carter’s mother Lillian Carter to develop a one-woman theatrical presentation titled “Miss Lillian Speaks.”

Swarbrick-Dries, an internationally known stage and television actress, presents the show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E Lauridsen Blvd, in Port Angeles.

Tickets are only available at the door for $15 each to partially benefit the Community Players Youth Theater program for children ages 6-18 and give them the opportunity to learn about theater through workshops and participating in plays.

In her research, Swarbrick-Dries has received much support from Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter and they’ve even met a handful of times to discuss Lillian further. To receive the former president’s blessing for the play, he asked that a portion of proceeds benefit the Plains Better Hometown Program, the Carters’ nonprofit community-building organization.

Since receiving their blessing, Swarbrick-Dries has performed the 55-minute show in a few locations, including the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Mo.

She says the play is not political and “any adult and even young adults can enjoy it.”

Following each performance, Swarbrick-Dries will sit in on a question and answer session.
