Sequim artist seeks record deal in Australia

Downunder Label Group likes Taylor’s commercial voice

Six albums later, Sequim recording artist Tom Taylor continues to find fans down under.

Taylor, who began receiving significant airplay in Christian radio stations across Australia a few years ago, is now in process of signing a multiple record deal through the Downunder Label Group, a group of Christian record labels.

“The response has been very positive,” Taylor said of Aussies. “They are the place I’ve sold the most (songs and albums) from playing on Vision Radio Network on about 600 stations.”

Taylor has never been to Australia before but submitted his music two years ago for airplay consideration to Ebon Knox, music director for Rhema Newcastle: a Christian radio station based in New South Wales, Australia.

Knox, also Downunder’s label director, reviewed the album for the label and offered a publishing deal for Taylor’s album “Taking Me Back.”

But, “it wasn’t the Lord’s timing to make a deal with them at that time,” Taylor said.

He recently completed his seventh album “Windows and Walls” in his home and submitted the album for consideration but Taylor was told it didn’t meet their standards. However, he was offered an artist and development deal, and a newly recorded album with Downunder’s Sydney production team.

Taylor said the opportunity is exciting and would be his first fully produced material. Previously, he held online fundraisers to partially produce one or a few songs for certain albums.

For his upcoming album, Taylor would record vocals and tentatively provide some of the instrumentation.

“Downunder is a company of great integrity and I’m very much looking forward to working with them,” he said. “I feel really blessed to be able to do what I love and to have the right people in my corner.”

Taylor plans to release his latest single “To Be Free (featuring Brandon Bee),” that he recorded in March at Vancouver’s Crossroads Productions, soon.

Taylor also continues to offer his single “Jen’s Song” co-produced by Jeremy Cays online as a tribute to a young woman that lost her battle with cancer in October 2013 with proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
