Clallam County Democrats have new leadership. The party’s precinct committee officers met in a special meeting April 12 and elected Roger Fight of Sequim as party chairman and Marcia Farrell of Port Angeles as vice chairman.

The special meeting occurred immediately after the party’s annual County Convention.

Fight, who had been acting chairman for about two weeks, was elected to fill the vacancy created when Pat Johansen of Sequim resigned due to family health issues. She had served as chairman for 15 months and Fight was then vice chairman.

The county Democrats at the convention elected Joseph Landoni of Sequim and Bill Dole Jr. of Port Angeles and Ruth Replogle of Port Angeles and Marcia Farrell as delegates to the state Democratic Party convention in Spokane on June 21.

Nina Richards and John Marrs of Port Angeles were chosen as alternate delegates.

The party also adopted its 2014 platform — available on the Clallam County Democrats website (www.clallamdemocrats.org) — and adopted two resolutions. The first resolution states that the party will support candidates who declare that they will work to achieve meaningful action to repair atmospheric damage that contributes to climate change. The second resolution urges U.S. Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell to sponsor a companion bill to House Joint Resolution 29, calling for a constitutional amendment to override the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that corporations have the same free speech rights as individual persons.
