Geological Society meeting
The Quimper Geological Society is hosting Tom Badger, retired Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) chief engineering geologist, for an in-person presentation at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Badger is currently working on a study for Washington State Route (SR) 112 that has many deep-seated landslides, many of which have the capability of stranding thousands of people on the northwest tip of the state. Particularly unfavorable geology underlies the western half of SR 112 and this, combined with steep topography and an exceptionally wet winter climate, make it one of the most landslide-afflicted highway corridors in the state, according to the Quimper Geological Society’s meeting announcement.
Badger will summarize the results of a planning-level study commissioned by the WSDOT.
The lecture will take place at Port Townsend’s First Baptist Church, 1202 Lawrence St. Attendees may enter at the back of the building. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Visit quimpergeology.org for more information.
