Starting in early April, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin final paving activities on the U.S. Highway 101 widening project between Kitchen-Dick and Shore roads.

Drivers using that stretch of Highway 101 can expect single-lane closures during daytime hours each Monday through Friday until paving is complete. The work is weather-dependent, state Department of Tansportation officials said this week, and only will occur during dry days when temperatures exceed 45 degrees.

Depending on progress, paving also may occur during daytime hours on weekends.

Specific work hours will be announced as the work is scheduled, state officials said.

In addition to final paving and striping, crews are finishing drainage and shoulder work, installing landscaping and finishing earthwork under the bridge. Drivers will be able to access local businesses in the construction corridor, state officials said.

This project, under construction since early 2013, widened the last two-lane section of Highway 101 to four lanes between Sequim and Port Angeles.

About 18,000 drivers use the highway linking the two cities each day, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
