Milestone: Footprinters fete peninsula officers

On May 11, the Olympic Peninsula Chapter 74 of the International Footprint Association honored the achievements of the Clallam County law enforcement and public safety organizations at its annual “Officer of the Year” awards banquet held at the Sequim Elks Club.

On May 11, the Olympic Peninsula Chapter 74 of the International Footprint Association honored the achievements of the Clallam County law enforcement and public safety organizations at its annual “Officer of the Year” awards banquet held at the Sequim Elks Club.

Chapter President Maura Mattson and Program Chair Gene Mattson presented special recognition plaques to officers elected by their peers, who have excelled in their careers by going “above and beyond.”

The chapter also presented Officer Tony Bush (PAPD) with an achievement award for being selected as Basic Academy 2015 Class President at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Academy. He is only the second Clallam County participant to have achieved that role, the first being over 30 years ago (Chief Terry Gallagher).

The following agencies were recognized: Sequim Police Department, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police Department, Forks Police Department, Port Angeles Fire Department, Fire District 2, Fire District 3, Fire District 4, Washington State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, Clallam Bay Corrections Center, U.S. Coast Guard and PenCom.

The Footprinters is nonprofit and promotes fellowship, respect, cooperation and helpfulness between all arms of law enforcement and the public. It also promotes the welfare of its members and communities to champion the true spirit of Americanism by supporting such civic activities as charitable works, sponsoring CASA golf tournaments and awarding scholarships to young people interested in law enforcement and related fields.
