Missionaries seek support to build family housing

A small missionary team with multiple Sequim residents journeys to Guatemala later this month to build four homes for families and distribute 50 wheelchairs.

Led by former Dungeness Community Church youth pastor David Piper, the group works with the local Bethel Ministries International team in Chimaltenango.

Last summer, Piper and David Rivers, assistant pastor of Calvary Chapel Sequim, traveled there to help build two houses and distribute 25 wheelchairs. It was Piper’s first trip to the country since 2008 when he was on a mission there.

Following his son’s efforts, Mike Piper donated last December to build a home for a single mother of three who lost her husband less than a year ago in a construction accident.

Mike Piper died on Jan. 11, and the latest mission is David’s way to finish his dad’s dream and expand on it, he said.

The team visits Guatemala April 22-29 with about $4,000 left to finance the remaining house for construction on their trip.

One donation site is set up at gofundme.com/f/mike-piper-memorial-home-build and a tax-deductible donation through the missionaries under the “Mike Piper Memorial House Build” at interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=E99707&id=95.

All donations go towards construction and equipment, David Piper said.
