Rotary Club of Sequim’s 2016 salmon bake deemed a success

The Rotary Club of Sequim’s 48th annual Salmon Bake and Barbecue once again fed, entertained and informed the Sequim community on Aug. 14.

The Rotary’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the bake/barbecue generally bring in about $9,000, said this year’s event co-chair, Vicky Blakesley.

The event featured not just meals but a number of nonprofits offering details about their services, including the American Legion, Shipley Center, Captain Joseph House, Sequim City Band and the Sequim Food Bank.

The Sequim Guild for Seattle Children’s Hospital, sold all but three of its 140 pies with a few minutes left in the afternoon.

The Sequim High School football team helped out as well, including building the pit for baking salmon.

It didn’t hurt that Sequim saw blue skies, either. “The weather was very cooperative this year,” said Blakesley, who, along with Anthony Aceto, helped organize the event.
