The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is seeking more details about an incident at the Plaza Safeway east of Port Angeles on July 7.

At about 12:35 p.m. that day, a Bremerton resident and family members reported being harassed by a man later identified as Daniel James Jackson, 61, of Greeley, Colo. — a man law enforcement officials describe as a panhandler.

According to the alleged victims, Jackson was aggressive in requests for money, and in his second time asking for money, Jackson allegedly produced a knife and threatened one of the family members. A second alleged victim saw the incident and shoved Jackson to the ground. Jackson reportedly fell to the ground, sustaining face and head injuries; he was transported by medics to Olympic Medical Center, sheriff’s office officials said.

Other witnesses reported that Jackson had been in the area all weekend and was harassing other customers, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

Clallam County deputies are continuing to investigate this matter. They ask those who witnessed the event or have any information to contact Deputy Bill Cortani or Sgt. Eric Munger at 417-2459.
