Krumpe takes men’s golf championship

Sid Krumpe outlasted Grant Ritter by the slimmest of margins to take the 2016 Men’s Club Championship at The Cedars at Dungeness, held Aug. 15, 17 and 19. Krumpe shot a 2-under 214 over the three-day tournament (70-72-70), edging Ritter by a single shot; Ritter shot a one-under 215, shooting rounds of 72, 73 and a final day-best 70. Ron Grants was third at 8-over-par.

Avalanche hoops hosts tryouts

Avalanche Basketball, a select hoops squad for girls of the North Olympic Peninsula, is hosting tryouts for a team. Girls entering seventh and eighth grade are eligible. Tryouts are 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Peninsula College gymnasium, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. For more information, call Joe Marvelle at 460-4746.

Racing series finale set for Sept. 10

The American Sprint Boat Racing series sets its finals for Sept. 10 at Port Angeles’ Extreme Sports Park. The series features a number of local drivers, including TNT Racing from Sequim and Wicked Racing of Port Angeles. Sweet shoots 69, places 16th

Tyler Sweet, pro at Sequim’s Sunland Golf & Country Club, shot a 69 in the third and final round to place 16th at the Northwest Open Invitational in Walla Walla on Aug. 17.

Sweet shot rounds of 71 and 74 before his final round left him 2-under-par.

PGA pro Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club posted 17-under-par 199 over the three-day tourney to top amateur Andrew Whalen of Lakeview Golf & Country Club by three shots.
