As the end of the school year approaches, families across the Olympic Peninsula are gearing up for a much-needed break. But for many young people, summer can bring about questions of “what now?”
The answer is simple: The Boys & Girls Clubs are here to make the most of summer for youth in Sequim and Port Angeles. This year, we’re thrilled to announce that we will be hosting 10 weeks of affordable, all-day summer camp, offering both fun and enriching programs that will keep kids engaged, learning, and making memories.
At the Boys & Girls Clubs, we know that summer is an important opportunity to provide youth with the tools and experiences that help them grow into capable, confident adults. That’s why we’ve packed our summer camp with exciting opportunities, from arts and crafts to science experiments, team-building games, field trips, and more. Our dedicated staff will ensure that each day offers a variety of activities that are not only lively but also foster creativity, teamwork, and personal development.
Kids can enjoy a nurturing, structured environment while exploring new hobbies, building skills, and forming friendships. Teens can join and attend the Club year-round, including during the summer, at no cost.
Current Club members can attend afternoon summer camp activities from noon to 6 p.m. each day as part of their $30 per year annual membership. Morning camp is available from 7:45 a.m. to noon daily for a nominal fee and discounts are available if paid in advance.
Summer camp is more than just a place for children to pass the time. Participation can play a critical role in keeping kids active and mentally stimulated during the long break from school. Research has shown that youth who attend summer camps experience improved social skills, increased physical activity, and enhanced problem-solving abilities.
We’re intentional about preventing summer learning loss by incorporating engaging educational activities into our daily schedule—like reading challenges, STEM projects, and hands-on learning opportunities that keep young minds sharp. In addition to the activities offered within our Clubhouses, we’ll also be taking exciting field trips. Whether it’s exploring nature on a hike, attending a Mariner’s game, or enjoying a day at the beach, these outings provide valuable learning experiences and a chance for children to see the world beyond their usual surroundings.
One of the essential components of our summer programming is the Summer Food Service program, which is offered at no charge to youth 18 and under. As many parents know, the summer months can create challenges when it comes to ensuring that children have access to nutritious meals.
That’s where we come in.
With the help of a dedicated group of adult volunteers, our teen workforce readiness program helps address the critical issue of food insecurity that many families face when schools are not in session. This summer, young people across the peninsula will have access to free USDA-approved meals Monday-Friday at 11 different locations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs as well as parks and housing complexes.
This program not only provides a crucial service to our community but also gives teens valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and service to others. These adolescents have the responsibility to help prepare and serve meals, learning important workforce skills that will benefit them as they move forward into adulthood. It’s an incredible way for our teens to give back while gaining skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
We encourage all families to take full advantage of what the Boys & Girls Clubs offer this summer. Whether your child is looking to dive into fun activities or simply stay active and engaged, our summer camp is the place to be. And for families in need, our free Summer Food Service program will help ensure that no child goes hungry.
We’re proud to be a safe, welcoming space for all young people, serving families in Sequim and Port Angeles. This summer, when school’s out, the Clubs are in – providing kids with a place to make new friends, explore new experiences, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Let’s open the door to great summers together!
Registration for summer camp is now open, and we invite you to reach out on our website, bgc-op.org, or call 360-683-8095 for more information on our Summer Food Program or to secure your child’s spot at summer camp today.
