One rather forgettable inning sent Sequim home with an Olympic League loss to one of the league’s top teams last week.

The Olympic Trojans scored 12 runs in the bottom of the sixth to knock off the visiting Wolves home with a 16-6 defeat on April 2 in six innings, a game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.

The Trojans had four hits and took advantage of three walks, two hit batters and three Sequim errors in the inning.

The Wolves, seeking their second league win, built a 6-0 lead after three-and-a-half innings on the strength of a two-run single Austin Hilliard in the second, a James Grubb RBI single in the third and a run-scoring ground out by Gavin Velarde and two-run double by Evan Hurd in the fourth.

Sequim starter Tanner Rhodefer was mostly sharp through four scoreless innings, walking three and striking out six and giving up just two hits. But Olympic got to relievers Hilliard, Grubb and Daniel Harker for 16 runs in the next two innings, just four of those earned. Olympic’s Grant Kawahara had five RBIs, including a bases-clearing double in the sixth, and Olympic catcher Kylen Pereira ended the contest with an RBI triple to center field.

Sequim was slated to play at Port Angeles on April 6 and host Kingston on April 7. The Wolves are at Anacortes on April 10 and North Mason on April 14 before hosting the Port Townsend Redhawks on April 16.
