It wasn’t easy. In fact, the match came down to just a couple of pins in a Baker-format game. But Sequim’s Wolves (2-10) knocked off league rival Bremerton last week for fourth place in the five-team Olympic League.

The Wolves got a 276-pin series (107-169) from Dakota Henderson and a 267-pin series (125-142) as they edged the Knights 4-3.

After falling 540-531 in game one, Sequim rebounded for a 609-578 win in game two. The teams split Baker games, with Bremerton taking the first 112-110 and Sequim the second, 123-115.

Sequim won in pin total, giving them their second win against Bremerton (2-1) in three matches this season.

Kaleigh Cassal added 223 pins in her two-game series and Sarah Newell added 216 pins for the winning Wolves.

Versus Eagles, Trojans

Try as they might, Sequim couldn’t knock off the league leaders in early January.

Behind a strong effort from all five varsity bowlers, Klahowya’s Eagles topped Sequim 6-1 in Silverdale on Jan. 5.

Cassal led Sequim with a 259-pin series (153-106), with Newell second at 249 pins (131-118), Quinn Danielson third at 246 pins (123-123) and Henderson fourth at 241 pins (108-133).

On Jan. 7, Sequim showed some spark in bowling two strong Baker games but still fell to Olympic 6-1 at Port Angeles’ Laurel Lanes.

Henderson posted Sequim’s best showing agains the Trojans with 161 pins in game one and a 289-pin series. Cassal was second with a 212-pin series and Thais De’ Moura third with 212 pins.

Looking ahead

Sequim takes seven athletes to the Olympic League meet set for Friday, Jan. 22, in Silverdale. Five of the nine teams at the league tourney advance to the district tournament.

The West Central District tourney is set for Saturday, Jan. 30, at Pacific Lanes in Tacoma. Four teams and an additional eight players for non-qualifying teams advance to the state 2A/3A tournament for districts.
