Cross country: Ellefson earns top-20 finish at John Payne XC Invitational

Sequim’s Colby Ellefson returned from a leg injury in recent weeks to place 10th (16:37.4) out of 178 runners in the Division 1 race at the 27th John Payne XC Invitational in University Place on Sept. 30.

Sequim’s varsity boys, competing in Division 2, placed 20th out of 41 teams. Senior Cayden Beauregard was 98th with an 18:48.8 finish while teammate Reid Randall was 177th (19:10.9), Sequim’s Solas McGruther (19:19.2) and Adrian Osborn (19:19.5) were 126th and 127th, respectively, in the 289-runner race.

Sequim’s girls, competing with a short-handed roster in the Division 2 varsity race, placed 26th out of 28 teams. Aspen Goldner was 145th (25:26.8), Birdie Pyeatt was 147th (25:27.8) and Mia Kirner was 151st (25:35.1) in the 203-runner race.

Sequim is at Bainbridge on Oct. 4 for a league meet and competes in the Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational in Lakewood on Oct. 7.

The Wolves compete in their final regular league meet at North Mason High School in Belfair on Oct. 11 before hosting the Olympic League championships on Oct. 19 at home at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course.
