Sequim’s bowling squad came out on the better side of tiebreakers, helping them blank North Mason on Jan. 14.

Kim Duce set a team record with a 221-pin first game and a 359-pin series as the Wolves beat the Bulldogs from Belfair 7-0 last week.

After winning game one 769-748, the teams came out dead even in game two (670-670). But Sequim won the tiebreaker by having the better lowest individual score.

Sequim edged the Bulldogs 149-146 and won the second Baker-format game 186-138 and won the total pin count (1,774 pins to 1,702).

Sequim’s total pin count broke a school record they set last season by four pins.

Sam Whiteside bolstered Sequim’s efforts with a 307-pin series while her sister Alex bowled a 283-pin series. Lola Macia, an exchange student who’s bowled just four months, recorded her best series with 273 pins, including 148 pins in the second game.

Megan Miller led the Bulldogs with a 331-pin series.

The win helped Sequim rebound from a 6-1 loss to rival Klahowya on Jan. 12. Cary Bailey, one of the top bowlers in the state, knocked down a game-high 456 pins in her two games, including a 279 mark in game two, just 21 pins off a perfect game.

Sequim with a 346-pin series, followed by teammates Hope Haabala (289 pins) and Duce (260).

Sequim was scheduled to bowl at Bremerton on Jan. 19 – results were unavailable at press time.

The Wolves were scheduled to be back in action Jan. 21 at Olympic, but Sequim coach Randy Perry said his team will forfeit the match because team members have finals.

Sequim competes at the Olympic League tourney the next day (Jan. 22) in Silverdale. Four of the six teams competing at the league tourney advance to districts.
