The Sequim softball team found itself in a wild, back-and-forth high-scoring affair against Kingston on May 4, as three Buccaneer runs in the top of the seventh were the difference in a 10-9 loss in Sequim.
The game featured 23 total hits. Taylee Rome had another big day for the Wolves, going 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and three RBIs. She raised her already sterling season batting average to .651.
Leila Sanderson was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs, while Mia Kirner hit a double and had an RBI. Hannah Giddings and Rylin Whitehead each hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Whitehead had an RBI.
The loss capped a tough week for Sequim, who fell in four Olympic League games.
On April 30, North Mason was able to break open a close game late against the Sequim, going on to win 11-6.
Sequim and North Mason went into the fifth inning tied 4-4, but the Wolves gave up seven runs in the final three innings.
Kirner had a good game, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Ava Ritter was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. She scored a run and walked.
Rylie Doig was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks, while Rome had a hit, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.
In the circle, Whitehead pitched 3⅔ innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Navaeh Owens pitched 2⅔ innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs while striking out five. Rome pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out both batters.
After a 15-5 loss at Kingston on May 2, Sequim took on first place North Kitsap on May 3 and kept it close until the sixth inning before finally falling, 7-1.
Rome, Ritter and Whitehead all had hits in that game. Owens kept the powerful North Kitsap squad to four runs until the sixth inning. She completed the game, allowing six earned runs while striking out two.
Looking ahead
Sequim was scheduled to host Olympic on May 7; results were not available at press time.
Sequim hosts rival Port Angeles on May 10 to close out the season.
