Klahhane gymnasts advance to regionals

The Klahhane Gymnastics Girls Xcel Team was among the 1,550 girls participating in the Washington State Xcel Championship meet, held April 1-3 at the Puyallup Fair Mattress Firm Showplex.

Klahhane had athletes competing in three of the five Xcel Divisions; two from the squad will represent Klahhane in the USA Gymnastics Region 2 Championship Meet, set for April 30-May 1 at the Evergreen Fairgrounds in Monroe — a meet that includes qualified gymnasts from Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington state.

In the Gold Division, Mariah Traband finished with an all round score of 36.375 to grab a spot in the allocation for Washington state of 114 out of 400 gymnasts advancing in all Platinum age groups combined. Traband also finished ninth in her age group and fifth on vault.

Also competing in the Gold Division were: Taylor Bugge, scoring 9.225 points on beam for eighth place in the Senior C division; Neveah Thurman DuPuis, who scored 35.80 all-around points and was eighth on the balance beam (9.25) in the Junior B division, and Kira Hartman (35.60 all-around points, Junior B division) and Lucy Spelker (35.575 all-around points, Senior C division).

Scarlett Sullivan, the only Platinum competitor for Klahhane, advanced to the Regional Invitational in the Platinum Division by scoring above the minimum qualifying score of 35.0 points. Sullivan hit all her routines consistently across all four events, coaches said, and finished 13th in her age group.

In the Silver Division, Gracelyn Goss finished with the highest score on the team. Her score of 37.10 points earned her 12th place in the high-scoring Child G age group.

Elyse Brown, competing in the Junior C age group, finished 10th scoring 36.85 all-around points. Brown had the top score on vault in her age group with 9.650 points.

The Klahhane team had a good day on vault, coaches noted: Saffron Tschida took top honors in vault with 9.775 points in the Junior F age group; Daylen Williams’ score of 9.675 in the Senior B age group was good for third place, and Harper Hilliker scored 9.30 points in the Child G age group.

The Silver Team will compete in the Regional Invitational for bronze and silver gymnasts on April 29 at the Evergreen Fairgrounds in Monroe.
