Klahhane gymnasts compete at Aloha invite

Area gymnasts helped bring home more than two dozen medals for the Port Angeles-based Klahhane Gymnastics club after posting strong scores at the George Lewis Memorial Aloha Invitational at Seattle Pacific University, held Jan. 23-24.

Area gymnasts helped bring home more than two dozen medals for the Port Angeles-based Klahhane Gymnastics club after posting strong scores at the George Lewis Memorial Aloha Invitational at Seattle Pacific University, held Jan. 23-24.

On Jan. 23, Piper Allen, Waverly Mead and Sequim’s Mady Stockdale competed in the Level 3 division. Stockdale scored 33.45 all around points in the Junior C group, her top event being the vault (8.9). In Junior B action, Mead scored 33.375 all-around points and Piper Allen had 33.325 points in the A division.

In Level 4, Klahhane competitors included Dylan Baermann, Cindy Liang and Samantha Robbins. Liang scored 34.35 in all-around points and Robbins 33.65, both in the Senior A division.

In Level 6 competition, Sequim’s Kiana Miller scored 35.85 all-around points among Senior B gymnasts, her top score coming in the balance beam (9.05). Morgan Mattix and Sequim’s Kori Miller and Susannah Sharp each competed in the Junior A division.

Mattix placed fifth in all-around scoring, earning medals in the valut (fifth, 9.0) and uneven bars (fourth, 8.175). Miller earned a sixth-place medal for her all-around mark (34.30), placed second on the uneven bars (8.45) and third on floor exercise (8.95). Sharp scored 33.0 all-around points. In Junior B competition, Anne Edwards and Sequim’s Gracie Sharp both scored 33.85 all-around points. Edwards earned a seventh-place medal for the vault (8.90) while Gracie Charp took seventh in the floor exercise (8.85).

On Jan. 24, Cassii Middlestead and Sequim athletes Danica Miller and Lainy Vig competed in the Xcel Platinum division. In the Senior age group, Middlestead’s 35.75 all-around points earned her second place and she was the top athlete on the bars (9.35). Also in the Senior age group, Miller took home a fourth-place medal for 35.25 all-around points. She earned three medals, placing second on vault (9.0), fourth on bars (9.0) and fifth on the balance beam (8.625).

In the Junior age group, Vig scored 34.05 total points, placing fourth on the balance beam (8.45) and also on the floor exercise (8.90).

In Xcel Gold action, Maizie Tucker tallied 33.925 all-around points among Senior A athletes, with medals coming in the bars (fifth, 8.40) and vault (sixth, 8.80). Klahhane’s Julienne Jacobs and Aiesha Mathis competed in the Senior B division. Jacobs scored 33.80 all-around points, scoring medals in the vault (sixth, 8.60), balance beam (sixth, 8.25) and floor exercise (sixth, 8.80). Mathis scored 32.075 all-around points.

Klahhane athletes Samantha Aranda, Clare Bowechop, Adisyn Ellis-Bourm, Brooklynne Jacobs, Chloe Notari and Isabelle Pecoraro competed in the Xcel Bronze division. In the junior category, Ellis-Bourm was fourth and Pecoraro placed fifth, while Notari took sixth in the Senior classification.
