Klahhane gymnasts strike gold in Canada

The Klahhane Gymnastics teams came away with two age-group champions and 19 all-around and individual event medals at the 33rd-annual Garden City Invitational, hosted by Falcon Gymnastics Centre during the Victoria Day celebration, in Victoria, B.C. from May 16-18.

In the first competition session, Klahhane started off strong with Kianna Miller winning the all-around championship in the Level 6, 14+ age group with a score of 35.45 points. She also picked up the gold medal on floor exercise with a 9.175 and silver medals on vault (9.10), uneven bars (8.0) and balance beam (9.175).

Competing in the 11-year-old age group, Gracie Sharp took the bronze all-around medal (34.80 points) and individual bronze medals on uneven bars (7.95) and balance beam (9.30). Emma Sharp took a won the gold medal on floor exercise (9.225) in the 12- to 13-year-old age group and received the judge’s award for the most creative floor choreography. She placed fifth in all-around scoring with 34.80 points. Kori Miller finished fifth all-around in the 10-year-old age group (34.625 points) and picked up fourth-place ribbons on vault (8.8) and balance beam (8.775).

In session two, the medal count continued for Klahhane, with Susannah Sharp taking the silver medal in the Level 5 all-around competition in the 9- to 11-year-old age group (35.0 points). She picked up gold on beam (8.9) and the floor exercise (9.05), and silver on the vault (8.8). Morgan Mattix took a bronze medal on balance beam (8.85) and fourth-place ribbons on vault (8.775), floor exercise (8.60) and all-around scoring (34.075). Lainy Vig added a fifth-place ribbon on vault (8.6) and finished ninth in the all-around competition.

Continuing the winning streak on day one, Cindy Liang, competing in the Level 3, 10- to 11-year-old competition, took the all-around championship scoring 36.70 points. Liang also won the uneven bars competition (9.25) took silver on vault (9.25) and balance beam (9.0), and was fourth on floor exercise (9.20). Julia Jack was seventh in all-around scoring (34.475) with a fourth place on uneven bars (8.725).

Level 3 competition continued on Sunday morning with the 7-8, 9- and 10-year-old age groups. Klahhane’s Dylan Baermann captured a bronze medal on balance beam (8.95) and finished eighth in all-around scoring (35.325). In the 10-year-old age group, Kathryn Jones pick up seventh-place event ribbons on vault and uneven bars. Elena Gonzales was fifth on balance beam (8.875) and ninth all-around (35.05) in the 7- to 9-year-old age group, and Kinzley Henrickson was sixth on balance beam, finishing 10th all-around (34.95).

The Klahhane Xcel Gymnasts competed in the Interclub Performance Plus meet on Sunday afternoon. Performance Plus competitors are evaluated and awarded a point based performance rating on each event; they do not receive an all-around score. Competing for Klahhane were Ennisa Albin, Julienne Jacobs, Aiesha Mathis, Cassii Middlestead, Danica Miller, Cassidy Tamburro and Maizie Tucker.

The athletes received 16 gold, nine silver and three bronze ratings. Danica Miller received the judges’ award for the most dynamic vault and Tamburro received the most creative choreography award.
