Men’s basketball: Peninsula bests Bellevue

Four Pirates in double figures as PC knocks off Bulldogs

Coming on the heels of a pair of wins against highly ranked foes two weeks ago, Peninsula split a pair of conference games last week — including a 72-62 win at Bellevue on Jan 23.

Four Pirates scored in double figures, led by the 19 points of Deonte Dixon.

Ryley Callaghan had 18 points, Dimitri Amos had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Darrion Daniels added 14 points off the bench for PC (3-2 in conference, 10-9 overall).

Bellevue got 15 points from former North Kitsap standout Calvin Dennis, but the Bulldogs (0-5, 9-11) couldn’t avoid their fifth consecutive conference loss to start the season.

The win helped Peninsula rebound from a nine-point decision on the road to the Olympic Rangers on Jan. 20.

Brian Neal hit four 3-pointers and had 26 points and five assists as Olympic topped the Pirates, 81-72.

Fueled by back-to-back 3-pointers by Dixon, Peninsula pulled within four points late in the game, but Olympic responded with three baskets in as many possessions to put the game out of reach.

Daniels scored 20 points off the bench and Dixon added 18, but Peninsula shot just 24-of-65 (37 percent) from the floor.

Callaghan and Malik Mayeux had 10 points each for PC.

Former Sequim High Wolf Josh McConnaughey saw limited action for the host Rangers.

It was Peninsula’s first loss to Olympic since Jan. 30, 2010.

Looking ahead

Peninsula gets three consecutive home contests, hosting Skagit Valley on Jan. 27, Shoreline on Jan. 30 and Edmonds on Feb. 6.
