Softball season nears start, hole-in-one feats, sports camps at P.C., more

Softball season nears start

Port Angeles Parks & Recreation’s adult coed slowpitch season starts the week of July 21. Each team plays 12 games in a six-week season. There is a sponsor fee of $415 along with individual player fees. Team packets are available at the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation office, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles.

There also is a “free agent” list for players looking to get on a team.

Hole in one

Brett Allen of Sequim sank his first hole in one on June 29 at The Cedars at Dungeness. Allen aced No. 8 at The Cedars, a 130-yard hole. Garrett Smithson and Chad Wagner of Sequim and Grant Smithson of Wichita Falls, Texas, witnessed the feat.

Another ace

Sterling Epps of Sequim sank his first hole in one on July 2 at The Cedars at Dungeness. Epps aced No. 4, a 145-yard hole. Dick McCammon and Walter Stette, both of Sequim, witnessed the feat.

Youth sports camp at P.C.

The sounds of summer will fill the air July 14-17 when Peninsula College Pirate coaches and players roll out the P.C. campus welcome mat for youth ages 7-13 for four days of fun and learning.

The college’s first Basketball/Soccer Sports Sampler Camp is designed to provide youths with the opportunity to play soccer and basketball and also try their hand—and feet—at badminton, kickball, pickle ball, dodge ball and any number of different sports that involve a ball.

The camp meets daily from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Fee for the camp is $100. Campers must bring their own gym shoes, water bottle and basketball.

Soccer camps slated for July

Michael McMurray hosts soccer camps at the Albert Haller Playfields in Sequim in mid-July.

Camps include:

• U6 co-ed (ages 4-5), 10-11:30 a.m., July 14-18. Cost: $65, 18-player maximum

• U8 co-ed (ages 6-7), noon-2 p.m., July 14-18. Cost: $75, 24-player maximum

• U10 co-ed (ages 8-9), 9-11:30 a.m., July 21-25. Cost: $85, 24-player maximum

• U10 co-ed (ages 8-9), noon-2:30 p.m., July 21-25. Cost: $85, 24-player maximum

The camp encourages one-on-one instruction for a full range of basic soccer skills. Fee includes soccer ball.

SkyRidge Golf Course hosts a pair of upcoming tournaments.

SkyRidge’s Lavender Golf Tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19. The two-person scramble is $35 per player and includes golf, range balls and lunch following play. Extra honey pots are $10 each and carts are $15 per seat.

The Clallam Links “Open” starts with a mini-shotgun at 1 p.m. on Sunday July 20, following a noontime lunch. Format is individual medal play. The tourney includes two men’s divisions and one women’s division. The field is limited to the first 40 paid players.

Cost is $50 and includes golf, honey pot, range balls, KPs, longest putt competition and lunch. Power carts are $15 per seat.
