Students hoist shots at annual Elks Hoop Shoot

The Sequim Elks Lodge hosted the annual Elks Hoop Shoot contest on Jan. 10 in the Sequim Boys & Girls Club where children shot free throws for a chance to advance to higher rounds.

There were three age groups — 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13 — for boys and girls.

Roman Bacchus, last year’s state runner-up in the 10-11 boys competition, won the 12-13 local competition. He made 22 out of 25 free throws and will compete in the district competition on Jan. 24, again held in Sequim. If he and other local winners win their district brackets, they’ll advance to the state competition.

Names of other local winners were unavailable by press time. For more information, visit elks.org/hoopshoot.
