The top spot in this league remains in Poulsbo.

North Kitsap dominated from the start and knocked off rival Sequim in three sets on Oct. 1 — 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17.

“They pretty much overpowered us the first game with their serving and hitting,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “They served tough the whole match and we struggled with serve receive.”

Rylie Roberts and Megan Breckenridge paced the Wolves (3-2 in Olympic League play, 4-3 overall) with six and five kills, respectively.

Lilian Oden had 10 assists and Sydney Balkan had five for Sequim. Breckenridge had three blocks. Roberts had 17 digs and libero McKenzie Bentz added 16 to lead the Sequim defense. Sequim was 42-of-47 (89 percent) from the serving stripe. Ella Christiansen had two of Sequim’s three aces.

“We need to block better to help on defense,” Webber Heilman said.

Sequim started the week strong, topping North Mason in a three-set sweep (25-8, 25-11, 25-11). Christiansen led the offense with seven kills while Roberts and Maddie Potts had five each. Oden had 12 assists and Balkan added seven.

“Our offense was spread out well with Sydney and Lillian doing a great job setting,” Webber Heilman said.

Christiansen had five of the team’s eight blocks, and Roberts led the team with 17 digs.

Sequim had 16 aces — three each from Bentz, Christiansen, Oden and Potts — and was 61-of-68 from the service line.

“We overwhelmed them with our tough serving,” Webber Heilman said.

The Wolves were slated to play at Bremerton on Oct. 6. Sequim hosts Olympic, the league’s No. 2 team, on Oct. 8 and travels to Olympia for the Capital City Tournament on Oct. 10.
