Sequim Picklers to host ‘Spring Fling’ tourney

The Sequim Picklers, a local pickleball club, will host the three-day “Sequim Fling” tournament set for May 31-June 2 at Carrie Blake Community Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.

Organizers expect more than 300 attendees. Registration is online at pickleballtournaments.com and is open through May 24.

“Sequim Fling” follows the success of the Picklers’ Blue Hole Bash in fall 2018 that attracted more than 250 attendees from up to 500 miles away, event organizers say. They estimate 40 percent of attendees stayed in local overnight accommodations and 60 percent frequented local restaurants.

Sequim’s USA Pickleball Association-sanctioned pickleball courts at Carrie Blake Community Park have become a destination venue for players across the Pacific Northwest. Funded by a partnership between Sequim Picklers and the City of Sequim, local players raised $61,000 in grants and members themselves donated $156,700; writing a check to the city in the amount of $217,700 for construction of the public courts, completed last summer.

The tourney also offers local businesses and groups to be tournament sponsors.

Sponsorship levels range from $100-$800. Prospective sponsors can call Katinka Nanna at 775-304-1452 for more details.
