North Olympic Salmon Coalition elects officers

Wild salmon advocates have some new helping hands.
The Board of Directors of the North Olympic Salmon Coalition recently elected new officers for the coming year. They are: Jim Pearson, president; Jean Erreca, vice-president; Terry Sweeney, secretary, and Anita Schmucker, treasurer.
Other Board members include Andy Brastad, Scott Chitwood, Brian Roe, Richard Wojt and Katherine Baril, who recently joined the board.
Baril previously led the Washington State University-Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Office and helped write the 1990 legislation that created Washington’s state-wide system of Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups.
The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is a Regional Salmon Enhancement Group serving northern Clallam and Jefferson counties and from Port Ludlow to Cape Flattery. The coalition is a community-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote robust wild salmon stocks for families, fishers and local economies by furthering habitat restoration and education on the North Olympic Peninsula.
The coalition partners with the Port Townsend, Chimacum and Clallam Bay school districts through its Real Learning, Real Work Program. Middle school students in the program work with coalition staff and volunteers to learn about the science and practice of salmon habitat restoration both in the classroom and with hands-on work at actual restoration sites.
