Lights go on at Sequim Civic Center’s tree

The First Friday Art Walk on Dec. 1 ushered in the third annual tree lighting at the Sequim Civic Center. As tradition, Sequim mayor Dennis Smith switched on the tree lights in the center’s lobby at 152 W. Cedar St. Sharon DelaBarre, chairman of the Sequim City Arts Advisory Commission, said more than 80 ornaments from fourth-graders and 9-year-old students living in the Sequim School District hang on the tree. The tree remains on display through Jan. 1, 2018. After the tree lighting, dancers with Sequim Ballet performed scenes from “The Nutcracker” too.

Prior to the event’s kick-off, Smith held a moment of silence for the late John Miller, a Sequim councilman, who died on Nov. 29.
