Sequim Community Aid’s annual Toys for Sequim Kids helped brighten Christmas morning for hundreds of local children once again.

Organizers say this year’s event on Dec. 13 at Sequim Prairie Grange provided toys, clothes, blankets and other items for 376 children — 203 boys and 173 girls — with 141 families within Sequim school District boundaries. Kathy Suta, board president for Sequim Community Aid, said she and other volunteers were grateful for the donations that came in from across the area.

“It was gratifying to see the support,” said Suta, who served as co-chairman for the event with Jim Davis.

Several groups, agencies and businesses worked together to bring in items for children ages 0-14. They include Clallam County Fire District 3, Clallam County Literacy Council, Grocery Outlet, Clallam Co-Op, YMCA of Sequim, QFC, Boy Scout Troops 90 and 1103, Blue Sky Realty, 1st Security Bank, and Toys for Tots.

Sequim Community Aid, a nonprofit, provides year-round help with utility and rent for those in need and Suta said as they reach colder months the demand for assistance rises.

To make a donation, send checks by mail to “Sequim Community Aid, P.O. Box 1591, Sequim, WA, 98382.” To donate to the agency for utility assistance, leave the memo blank, and to donate to Toys for Sequim Kids, check memo lines should state “toys.”

Call Sequim Community Aid at 681-3731 for assistance and/or to volunteer.
