‘Shattered Ceilings’ to highlight League of Women Voter’s 50th year

Tickets are on sale for “Shattered Ceilings,” a dramatic performance celebrating women who were directly involved with the Suffrage Movement and those who shattered their own personal ceilings – for themselves and women who followed — on Sunday, March 18.
Two presentations of the play, at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., are set at The Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2741 Towne Road, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of The Clallam County League of Women Voters.
Under the direction of Carol Swarbrick Dries, stage and TV actress and Sequim resident, eight local actresses portray an array of women each of whom made significant contributions to the nation through their courage, imagination and conviction despite obstacles of inequality.
The audience will hear personal stories from such women as Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul, Shirley Chisholm and Bella Abzug and learn more about Sojourner Truth and Fannie Hurst.
In addition to the two performances of “Shattered Ceilings,” a historical exhibit of the League of Women Voters’ work in Clallam County during the past 50 years and refreshments will be open to the public at no admission cost from 1-5:30 p.m. at The Old Dungeness Schoolhouse.

The national League of Women Voters, an outgrowth of the women’s suffrage movement, was formed in 1920 as a non-partisan civic organization to educate the public and to assure the success of democracy.
The Clallam County League was formed in 1968, and since that date has worked to encourage local citizens to register to vote, become well-informed voters and participate in all levels of government. More information is available at LWVCLA.org.
