Rivals during the season, Sequim’s girls wrestling squad joined up with grapplers from Port Angeles and Olympic to take on — and beat — wrestlers from Bremerton, Klahowya, North Mason, North Kitsap and Kingston at the Olympic League Girls Dual meet on Dec. 12.

The West All-Stars topped the East All-Stars, 33-28, with Sequim wrestlers earning five pins along the way.

At 120 pounds, Sequim’s Kaydence Hilliard pinned North Mason’s Kira Schwerzler in 44 seconds.

SHS teammate Alexi Rampp-Taft pinned Bremerton’s Jenna Adams with three seconds remaining in the first period in the 125-pound weight class.

At 145 pounds, Sequim’s Petra Bernsten pinned Klahowya’s Lana Parco in the third period.

Aleah Chen took down North Mason’s Destiny Ferber in 1:09 in the 155-pound weight class.

At 133 pounds, Sequim’s Skye Henning was ahead 6-5 but wound up getting pinned by Olympia’s Ciara King in the second period.

At 130 pounds, Sequim’s Amara Sayer battled No. 1-ranked Holly Beaudoin of North Kitsap (according to Washington Wrestling Report), getting pinned just before the first period whistle.

Jordan Hegtvedt of Sequim was pinned with 20 seconds left in the third period by North Mason’s Arynne Geier at 135 pounds.

The match also saw a couple Sequim-versus-Port Angeles matches: In the 123-pound weight class, Sequim’s Lilly Peterson pinned PA’s Trinity Laws in the first period, while Sequim’s Brooke Hodges was pinned by Port Angeles grappler Kayla Richmond in the third period.

“Sequim has a young team — all are freshman and sophomores except Alexi (Rampp-Taft), who is a junior,” Sequim coach Rich Hay said.

Sequim at Seahawk, Judi Emry tourneys

Sequim’s Petra Bernsten won the 140-pound girls’ class at the Return of the Seahawk wrestling meet on Dec. 1 at Chief Sealth High School.

Hay said two JV wrestlers — Zack Koch at 145 pounds and Noah Eveland at 285 — also went undefeated at the meet.

Bernsten also went undefeated in her weight class at the Judi Emry Tournament at Foss High School on Dec. 8.

Looking ahead

Sequim’s boys (0-1) look to even their league record when they host North Mason on Dec. 19.
