The eighth in the annual Backyard Birding series is “Sounds of Spring” presented by Dow Lambert and Ken Wiersma starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

Attendees are encouraged to come a bit early to secure a place at this popular program featuring slides, videos and sound recordings of local birds.

Participants will learn how to hone identification skills by learning songs and calls of the birds populating area backyards and surrounding fields and shores.

Hosted by members of the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, the 10-class Backyard Birding series offers interested local residents information about observing and protecting wild bird life locally.

Backyard Birding can be taken either as individual classes or in a series. Cost of each session is $5. Admission is free for anyone younger than 18.

For participants completing five sessions in the series, OPAS offers a free, one-year membership.
