NOLS recruiting teen volunteers for summer programs

The North Olympic Library System is in search of teens to spend part of their summer break volunteering at the library — having fun, earning service learning hours and meeting new people.

Each year, libraries in Sequim, Port Angeles, Forks and Clallam Bay actively recruit teen volunteers for the annual Summer Reading Program. Teen volunteers have the opportunity to assist with a wide range of programs and get a glimpse of the inner working of the library, program organizers say.

Teens entering grades 7-12 can apply to be a Special Event Volunteer. They will sign people up for the Summer Reading Challenge, assist with Summer Reading Program events and gain skills as a volunteer.

Volunteers get a free Summer Reading Program T-shirt and snacks throughout the program.

Applications can be found at www.nols.org/teens-events or any NOLS location.

The deadline to sign up for Sequim Library activities is Friday, June 14. Other deadlines are: Clallam Bay Library and Forks Library, June 1; Teen Leaders at Port Angeles Library, Wednesday, June 12; all other Port Angeles Library youth volunteers, Friday, June 21.

In Port Angeles, teens entering grades 9-12 also have the opportunity to apply to be a Teen Leader. Teen Leaders gain valuable planning and leadership skills while working with younger kids and a team, program organizers say.

“The Teen Leader program is a great opportunity for teens who want more responsibility and hours volunteering,” NOLS representatives said in a press release.

Teens involved with the program will have the chance to help coordinate summer reading program events and mentor younger teens working with the program.
