With libraries across the Olympic Peninsula closed, staff have gotten imaginative with their “Imagine Your Story” Summer Reading Program.

The free, all-ages program that kicked off on June 15 includes a reading challenge with incentives to earn a special North Olympic Library System (NOLS) T-shirt, chances to win grand prizes and virtual events.

Sign-up online at www.nols.org/srp, or by calling the library at 360-417-8500, x2.

After reading (or listening) for 30 days or 60 days, participants are eligible to submit entries into a grand prize drawing online or by calling the library by Monday, Aug. 17. Each NOLS branch library will draw winning tickets for children, teens and adults, with a choice of a $100 gift certificate to a local restaurant or bookstore, or a LEGO set of the winner’s choice, up to $100 in value.

Earn a special Summer Reading Challenge T-shirt is earned after reading for 30 days.

Virtual programs this summer include weekly storytimes on the road, author talks, online escape rooms, lectures and interactive educational activities.

Those looking for something to read this summer can check out the downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks available through the Libby app, or download movies, music and audiobooks through the Hoopla app. These resources are available for free with a library card. Those who don’t have a NOLS card can get a temporary one online at www.nols.org/library-card. An account offers free access to free downloadable resources available through the library system.

For personalized reading recommendations, check out BookMatch at www.nols.org/book match. Staff create a customized book list with information from participants’ reading history and preferences.

Library staff are available by phone at 360-417-8500, x2, or by email at discover@nols.org.
