Tessa Jackson, Sequim unit director of the Boys & Girls Club, and Santa Claus accept $1,000 last week from Debbie Wardrop, 7 Cedars Resort hotel manager, for Santa’s appearances at the hotel to support the club.

At Santa’s request, his Blyn appearance fees went to a worthy cause.

Last week, Debbie Wardrop, hotel manager for 7 Cedars Resort, donated $1,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula in lieu of paying Santa — aka Stephen Rosales — for three weekends of appearances at the resort at 270756 U.S. Highway 101.

“He was so kind not to accept payment,” she said.

Prior to Christmas, tribal staff converted one of the resort’s meeting rooms into “Holiday Central” including professional photographs with Santa, a gingerbread house competition and two sleighs hand-painted by staff at the House of Myths carving shed.

“We hope this becomes a long tradition,” Wardrop said.

Rosales estimates he saw hundreds of children over the span because the pandemic limited how many options there were for children to see Santa. All staff were fully vaccinated and masks were required at the events, Wardrop said.
