While the beauty of the Olympic Peninsula is breathtaking, our temperate climate can be exasperating to new-to-the-area gardeners, local green thumbs note.
Before you throw down that trowel for good, join Margery Whites for “Gardening for Newcomers to the North Olympic Peninsula,” a Digging Deeper Saturdays presentation slate for 10:30 a.m.-noon on July 20 at Sequim’s Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road.
During the presentation, Whites will discuss using the correct plant for the correct place in one’s yard, landscaping options and how to problem solve when issues pop up in the garden.
A Master Gardener since 2016, Whites moved to the area from Minnesota in 2015 and is enjoying the marine climate with its milder temperatures and minimal temperature swings.
In addition to the scheduled educational presentation, a team of Clallam County Master Gardeners will be available at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to answer gardening questions. Digging Deeper attendees are encouraged to bring samples of garden problems or pests for diagnosis by Master Gardeners who can recommend control measures.
Digging Deeper Saturdays are held from 10:30 a.m.-noon the third Saturday of selected months. These free public presentations cover basic gardening topics and are scheduled for 90 minutes to allow for demonstrations or questions.
Attendees are encouraged to check the Clallam County Master Gardener online calendar for updates about the location of the talk at extension.wsu.edu/clallam/master-gardener-calendar.
