The American Legion, Jack Grennan Post 62 in Sequim held a military-style flag retirement ceremony Saturday, which was Flag Day. The event also commemorated the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.

A flag retirement ceremony was held Saturday — Flag Day — at American Legion, Jack Grennan Post 62, 107 E. Prairie St. in Sequim.

The occasion also served as a commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.

During the military-style ceremony, Post Commander Nancy Zimmerman quoted from The American Legion Unserviceable Flags Ceremony: “A flag may be a flimsy bit of printed gauze, or a beautiful banner of the finest silk. Its intrinsic value may be trifling or great; but its real value is beyond price, for it is a precious symbol of all that we and our comrades have worked for and lived for, and died for: a free nation of free men, true to the faith of the past, devoted to the ideals and practice of justice, freedom and democracy.”

After the ceremony, refreshments were offered inside by the Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
