Jewel Hill, a fourth grader at Helen Haller Elementary in Maribeth Stewart’s class, shares the ornament she contributed to the Sequim Civic Center’s holiday tree at a ceremony on Dec. 5. Working with the theme “What brings you joy?,” Hill said, “Dragons are really important to me. They are majestic and cute; they’re awesome.”

Festive lights and ornaments are now up inside the Sequim Civic Center.

Officials with the city and the Sequim Arts Commission held the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 5 inside the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery and City Council chambers at 152 W. Cedar St.

Community members and families gathered for the event with ornaments decorated by local fourth graders and 9-year-olds using the theme “what brings you joy?” The Olympic Brass Quintet played holiday tunes during the evening with the “Black & White” art exhibition on display in the gallery.
