Volunteer opportunity: New C.E.R.T. classes begin in January

The Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is seeking volunteers. Training classes begin again on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Volunteers will be trained to perform the basic C.E.R.T. functions on three consecutive Saturdays. They will learn basic skills for search and rescue, first aid, radio use and paperwork documentation. Training sessions are conducted at KSQM radio station and the Training and Operations Center located in Carlsborg.

Training continues in two-hour monthly team meetings. During these meetings, members have a chance to work with their team, practice their skills and learn new skills. C.E.R.T. training will prepare volunteers to help their own families and neighbors during a major disaster.

C.E.R.T. members come from all walks of life and there is a role for everyone, regardless of physical ability. To find out more, visit ccfd3.org and click on Emergency Preparedness (CERT).

To sign up for training, contact Cindy Zechenelly at 360-504-2531.
