Winter gala supports Toys for Tots

Sinclair Place, 680 W. Prairie St., in Sequim, will host a Winter Wonder Ball from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the site for dinner, dancing and a silent auction to benefit Toys for Tots. Bring one unwrapped gift to donate to Toys for Tots.

Schools to host public forums about bond

To provide an opportunity for the public to hear information about the upcoming school construction bond, the Sequim School District is hosting two public forums. The first is 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the Sequim High School library, 601 N. Sequim Ave., and the second is 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the school district’s boardroom, 533 N. Sequim Ave.

Meeting on strait scheduled

The next quarterly meeting of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Ecosystem Recovery Network will be from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Red Cedar Hall on Old Blyn Highway in Blyn.

Agenda items include “Protecting the Strait of Juan de Fuca Nearshore – Bluff Erosion Rates and Boat-Based LIDAR Project Results” and “Shoreline Master Programs: Variability among the five local jurisdictions along the Strait of Juan de Fuca.”


Cancer support groups meet

The Olympic Medical Cancer Center offers the following support groups: 1-2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12. Look Good, Feel Better, OMCC Conference Room, third Monday of the month; program: Skin and hair care during cancer treatment.

Wig fitting also is available. Attendees must register by calling the patient navigator at 582-2845.

1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23. Women’s Cancer Support Group, OMCC Library, second and fourth Tuesday of the month, drop-in group, facilitator, Maggie Jamison, Ph.D.


Group offers boat safety class

The North Olympic Sail and Power Squadron, a unit of the U.S. Power Squadrons, offers a free seminar on “Boat Propane Systems and Safety” from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.


Santa expected in Sequim

Sinclair Place, 680 W. Prairie St., Sequim, will host cookies and cocoa with Santa from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the site.

The event is open to all families in need of help this Christmas.

All families planning to attend should RSVP to 681-3385 to make sure all their children receive a gift from Santa.

Friends chapter members remember their children

The North Olympic Chapter of Compassionate Friends parents will join the World Wide Candle Lighting Ceremony in honor of their children no longer with them.

The local event will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Eastern Hills Community Church sanctuary, 81 Savannah Lane, Carlsborg.

All bereaved family members and friends are invited. Parents are asked to bring a photo of their child.


Christmas dinner at grange

Sequim Prairie Grange invites the community to its Family Christmas Dinner at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.

Turkey with all the trimmings and ham will be provided and those attending are asked to bring side dishes or desserts. Buck Ellard will lead the Christmas carols and Santa is expected. The Grange Hall is at 290 Macleay Road.

Monday Musicale meets

Monday Musicale will meet Monday, Dec. 15, at Queen of Angeles fellowship hall, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles. T

PFOA fundraiser lights up tree

Peninsula Friends of Animals is having a” Tribute of Lights” fundraiser. Volunteers are illuminating a cedar tree at Safehaven with holiday lights.

For a $10 donation, a light will be lit in honor of a loved person or pet.

Donations will continue to brighten the lives of PFOA’S rescues.

Audit meeting set for council

A quorum of the Sequim City Council is scheduled to attend the audit exit meeting for the City of Sequim and Transportation Benefit District with the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

This meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the conference room at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St., Sequim.


Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491.
