Men’s basketball: Pirates go 2-1 at Clackamas Holiday Invite

Peninsula’s men are going into the new year with some momentum, winning two out three games at the Clackamas Holiday Invitational in Oregon City, Ore.
The Pirates opened the invite with a 93-88 nail-biting loss to the Yakima Valley Yaks on Dec. 28.
Colby Jackson was on fire from deep, hitting 5 of 9 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points. He also had five assists and three steals. Kaelin Crane chipped in 14 points while Marky Adams and James Buckley had 10 points apiece.
Gamaun Boykin led Yakima Valley with 22 points off the bench, 10 coming from the free throw line.
In the second game, Peninsula rebounded with a decisive, 79-66 win over No. 8-ranked South Puget Sound on Dec. 29.
Crane led four Pirates in double figures with 21 points, Trent Warren had a big all-around game with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Jackson added 13 points, nine assists and five steals.
Kaleb Poquette paced South Puget Sound with 16 points.
In the tournament finale, the Pirates edged Linn-Benton 77-72 on Dec. 30, jumping out to a 10-point halftime lead (41-31) and holding on for the win.
Jackson led all scorers with 24 points, going 4-for-7 from 3-point range and sinking all 10 free throw tries. Cole Huish had 13 points and Crane added 12.
Looking ahead
Peninsula gets three home games following the holiday break. The Pirates hosts Highline on Jan. 4, Shoreline on Jan. 10 and Everett on Jan. 13.
