Seeking officials
The North Olympic Basketball Officials Association is currently recruiting new members to help officiate the upcoming 2018-2019 middle and high school basketball season. The association covers all nine school districts across the North Olympic Peninsula, including Sequim and Port Angeles.
The association offers a full training program, teamwork and camaraderie, as well as paid game opportunities. Those interested are asked to contact Brian Edmiston at 360-670-7273.
Crab Fest 5k set for Saturday
Register now for the Crab Fest 5K Fun Run set for Saturday, Oct. 6, beginning at the Port Angeles City Pier at 11 a.m., with an out-and-back course along the waterfront trail.
Sponsored by Peninsula College Athletics, the event raises funds for student-athlete scholarships. Registration is $35 thereafter. Runners may also register on the day of the race beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Registrants receive a gift bag with a T-shirt, a $4 coupon toward a crab dinner, a free run at the Crab Derby and a drink ticket good for one beer, wine or soft drink.
Prizes are awarded in four separate divisions: under 40 women, over 40 women, under 40men and over 40 men. The winning runner in each category receives two free crab dinners and season passes for the men’s/women’s Peninsula College basketball 2018-2019 season.

Free boating class set
The North Olympic Sail and Power Squadron offers a free boating clinic on using the automatic information system (AIS) from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Gathering Place at Sunland Golf and Country Club, 135 Fairway Dr.
The clinic is conducted by squadron instructor Ray Madsen; the public is encouraged and welcome to attend.
AIS is a tool that boaters can use for collision avoidance in good and poor weather. The clinic details what AIS is, what it does, how it works, how to interpret information and apply it while at the helm of one’s boat.

Valley of the Trolls rerun set for Oct. 6
The 4 fourth-annual Valley of the Trolls races — including a half-marathon, 10k and 5k runs — are set for Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Troll Haven Bandy Farms, 950 Gardiner Beach Road, Gardiner.
With the catch phrase “Dust off your coconut bras and shake out your grass skirts, the Trolls have gone Hawaiian,” the annual races begin at 8 a.m.
Registration is $60 for the half-marathon run/walk; $45 for the 10K run/walk; and $40 for the 5K run/walk. To register, visit tinyurl.com/PDN-ValleyOfTheTrolls4.
The races were originally scheduled for Aug. 25, but poor air conditions from regional wildfires forced race organizers to postpone the event.
