OPAA sets December get-together

Olympic Peninsula Art Association hosts the club’s December general meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at St. Luke’s Episcopal church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

After a short business meeting, the group will exchange Artists’ Trading Cards and enjoy a potluck lunch. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share, and plate and utensils for themselves.

McCallum in artist spotlight at PA gallery

With his turned wood and his new 2-D art, Tracy McCallum is the featured artist for the month of December at Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., Port Angeles.

A member of the Harbor Art Gallery and Olympic Peninsula Art Association, McCallum will be at the gallery during open hours (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) on Friday, Dec. 13, and during the Second Saturday Art Walk (Dec. 14) from 5-7:30 p.m.

Retro show on tap at Eastern Hills

Enjoy a 1950s-style variety show with “A Christmas Toy Story,” set for 2-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Eastern Hills Community Church, 91 Savannah Lane, Carlsborg.

Presented by Grand Olympics Chorus of Sweet Adelines, the show features the Grand Olympics Chorus, the Sweet Adelines Regional Champion Quartet “WINK,” the Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus and local quartets.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children.

Sequim author gets outdoor books honor

A total of 19 books were chosen as winners in the 2019 National Outdoor Books competition, sponsored by the National Outdoor Book Awards Foundation, Idaho State University and the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education.

Among the winners were Mark Elbroch, who with Casey McFarland wrote, “Mammal Tracks and Sign: A Guide to North American Species” and won top honors in the competition’s Outdoor Classic division.

Elbroch is a lead scientist for Panthera, a global conservation organization that supports research and sharing science with large audiences.
