Dance with JFA at Sequim Elks

“Just Foolin’ Around” (JFA), a band that performs rock and blues from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, will perform from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 25 at Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Rd.

JFA is a favorite at local fundraisers and special events.

Cost is $10 for Elks members with ID, $12 for guests.

Poetry reading

The public is invited to join Empty Bowl Press for a reading with local poets. The event will be from 4-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at Port Townsend Friends Meetinghouse, 1841 Sheridan St.

Kate Reavey, who lives near Sequim on Blue Mountain and penned “Curve,” is author of the chapbooks “Through the East Window,” “Trading Post,” and “Too Small to Hold You.” She coordinates the Studium Generale speaker series at Peninsula College in Port Angeles and for many years was co-director of the Foothills Writers Series.

Ann Spiers, author of “Wild Cucumber,” lives on Vashon Island and was the island’s inaugural poet laureate. In addition to publishing eight poetry chapbooks, she is coauthor of “Walks, Trails and Parks on Vashon Island.” She served as Vashon Audubon president and volunteers for the land trust and park district.

The free reading will be followed by refreshments and a book signing with both authors’ work available for purchase.

Call for artists

The Olympic Peninsula Art Association invites artists of all mediums — painting, sculpture, photo, digital, fiber and more — to submit works that interpret the square.

What does “square” mean to you? A square dance? A quilt block? A town square or field of lavender?

The Square Show will run June 14-July 5 at Studio Bob, 118 1/2 E. Front St. in Port Angeles. Deadline for entry is June 7. Submit entries online at opaagroup.org.
