St. Luke’s hosts Easter services

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church has announced its schedule of services for Easter week.

All the services will be conducted in the church at 525 N. Fifth Ave.

Services include:

• Palm Sunday Liturgy of the Palms, without procession at 8 a.m. Sunday.

• Palm Sunday Liturgy of the Palms, with procession at 10 a.m., Sunday, April procession will be indoors in the event of inclement weather.

• Maundy Thursday Holy Eucharist, Foot Washing, and Stripping of the Altar, 7 p.m. Thursday.

• Maundy Thursday Watch following the Maundy Thursday service until 8 a.m. Friday.

The watch will be in-person and open on Zoom throughout the night for meditation and visitation, church staff will be present on campus throughout the night to offer security and assistance.

• Liturgy for closing of the Watch, 8 a.m. Friday, April 7, in-person and on Zoom.

• Good Friday Service with veneration of the cross, 7 p.m. Friday, April 7.

• Liturgy of the New Fire and Renewal of Baptismal Vows with Eucharist, 8 p.m. Saturday, April 8

• Easter service, followed by a pot luck celebration, 10 a.m. Sunday, April 9.

Reading ‘According to Mark’ set at TUMC

A dramatic reading of “The Passion According to Mark” will be a major feature of the Maundy Thursday service at 5 p.m. on April 6 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Readers will take the roles of people found in Chapters 14 and 15 of the Gospel of Mark, with two narrators providing context. Trinity’s music team will add to the service, and the Rev. Dr. Desi Larson, pastor, will officiate at communion.

On Good Friday, April 7, a period of silent meditation starting at 1 p.m. will commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus. Organist Pauline Olsen will provide music.

The resurrection will be celebrated at the 10 a.m. service on Easter Sunday, April 9, through the sermon by the pastor and selections by the Trinity Singers choir.
