Fiddlers association sets summer camp-out, jam sessions

Local musicians with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers are hosting a camp-out and jam sessions this week, and are inviting community members to join in.

Members of the WOTFA’s District 15 (Clallam and Jefferson counties) will host the event June 16-18 at the Quilcene Community Center and campground, 294952 U.S. Highway 101.

The festivities open for set up at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, when jamming also begins. A pizza and salad dinner will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. that night, followed by a community square dance from 7-9 p.m. Additional jam sessions will also run from 7-11 p.m. in the back room of the center and outdoors.

On Saturday, June 17, breakfast (pancakes, eggs, ham and fruit) is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. , with fiddle, mandolin, ukulele and guitar lessons filling out the morning and a band scramble in the afternoon. A potluck dinner starts at 5 p.m. Association members provide the main course; attendees are asked to bring a side or dessert to share. An evening band scramble performance starts at 7 p.m. along with music jams all around.

Saturday’s festivities will include a silent auction of music paraphernalia and instruments; the association is accepting any items of musical interest that are no longer in use or wanted for the auction.

On Sunday, breakfast is from 8-9 a.m. with a gospel hour beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by breaking down and cleaning up.

There is no charge for this event but donations are appreciated, association members said. Attendees do not need be a WOTFA member to attend or join in on the music and dancing.
