Judges name Irrigation Festival Grand Parade winners

A week before its own Grand Parade, the Jefferson County Rhododendron Festival’s “90 years of Rhody” royalty float won the Sequim Irrigation Festival’s Grand Sweepstakes on May 10.

The organization, which won the award last year, was one of more than 100 entries that went through downtown Sequim for the Irrigation Festival’s Grand Parade.

Festival organizers announced winners last week.

The Clallam County Fair royalty float won the President’s Award while the Mason County Forest Festival won the Governor’s Award.

The Daffodil Festival won the Mayors’ Award and Fathoms of Fun – Port Orchard “Game of F.O.F.” received the Chairman’s Award.

The Patriotic Award went to USS Bonefish SS-223.

For high school bands, Hoquiam High School Marching Band and Colorguard won first, and Chimacum Marching Band second.

Sequim Middle School won first as it was the only entry in that category.

Organizers note that Sequim’s hometown bands/floats do not typically qualify as hosts of the parade unless they are the only entry.

The Irrigation Festival’s royalty float will appear at several events this summer and fall. The Sequim float won Grand Sweepstakes on May 17 at the Rhododendron Festival. For more information on Sequim’s Irrigation Festival, visit irrigationfestival.com.
