HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Why did the chicken cross the road? To visit kindergarteners, of course! Kendall Adolphe, a fifth-grader in Eric Danielson’s class brought two of her chickens, Cop and Rose, to teach kindergarteners about a chicken’s life on a farm. Students learned what chickens eat, how they develop, how they are cared for, and many other interesting facts. Kindergarteners are studying farms and Kendall, Cop and Rose helped bring in some fun from the farm.

The second-grade students at Helen Haller are completing a social studies unit on Westward Expansion. Each lesson in the unit the students drew and wrote about the important information and events. They read stories about the importance of quilts to families and how quilts can tell a story. Students used their pictures and notes to create a story quilt to teach their families. Westward Expansion lessons included The Oregon Trail, wagon trains, Transcontinental Railroad, Pony Express, the Trail of Tears, Sequoyah, the Erie Canal and the importance of the steamboat.
