John Aten of Port Angeles won the top prize, a Toyota Corolla donated by Wilder Toyota of Port Angeles, at the Great Olympic Peninsula Duck Pluck presented by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.

The event on May 19 at Pebble Beach in Port Angeles set a record for the most money raised for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation in the event’s 35-year history — $129,000 after expenses. The old record, set last year, was $117,000.

Wilder Toyota has contributed the top prize for all 35 years.

There were 28,854 ducks sold by sales groups in Port Angeles and Sequim, said Bruce Skinner, the executive director of the OMC Foundation.

Thirty-five prizes were awarded on Sunday. All plucks were operated under the rules of the Washington State Gambling Commission. Each duck ticket cost $7. For $35, adopters received an extra duck (six chances to win).

Just prior to the main event was the Very Important Duck (VID) pluck, an opportunity for businesses and individuals, including those from off the Olympic Peninsula who do business with local companies, to purchase special VIDs emblazoned with their logo, for $350 each.

The top-selling individual salesperson was Sylvia Strohm, who sold 1,482 ducks. The top-selling Sequim salesperson was Esther Littlejohn, who sold 1,441 ducks (9,051 all-time).

Several others were at the top of the list, including Edna Petersen with 1,230 ducks (9,051 sold all-time), followed by Gail Ralston with 1,299 (35,559), Jim Leskinovitch with 1,080 (19,163), Harriet Coventon with 886 (3,437), Harry Hebert with 852 (6,089) and Addison Fox 810.

Fox, a Port Angeles High School student, won the rookie of the year award as a first-time seller.

Next was Sandy Sinnes with 745 ducks, 9,407 all-time. Between her and her late father Bub Olsen, they have sold 25,281 ducks all-time. She was followed by Leslie English (724) and PAHS student Oliver Martinez with 605.

The top-selling family was Larry and Sylvia Strohm, who sold 2,479 ducks (23,558 all-time).Also selling as a family, Lindsay Fox and her daughters Ava and Addison sold 1,266 ducks.

All-time best salespeople include Gail Ralston (35,465), Larry and Sylvia Strohm (21,397), Dick and Delores Kent (19,117), Gay Lynn Iseri (18,706) and Jim Leskinovitch (18,803).

Most VID Ducks were sold by Esther Littlejohn with 24, followed by Edna Petersen and Jim Leskinovitch with 17, Addison Fox with 12, and Larry and Sylvia Strohm with 11.

The top team, the Quackerbackers, captained by Gail Ralston, sold 4,962 ducks. Team members were Edna Petersen, Sandy Sinnes, Karen Rogers, CarrieWait, Stepohanie Casillas, Lindsay Fox, Shannon Durr, Scooter Chapman, Erika Ralston-Word and Sheri Lehmann.

The No. 2 selling team was the Wilder Ducks led by Larry and Sylvia Strohm, Dick Kent and Delores Bamer and Bill Schlichting with 3,137. No. 3 was the Olympic Medical Center Mandarin Duck Team with 2,159 led by Gay Lynn Iseri, Jim Leskinovitch and Jean Hordyk.

The team of Dick Kent and Delores Bamer, Gail Ralston and Scooter Chapman are the only people who have sold for all 35 events.
