Pie, president’s visit highlight special event

Hosted by Discovery Memory Care hosts a special George Washington’s Birthday and National Cherry Pie Day Celebration from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Mariner Café, 609 W. Washington St. Enjoy free homemade cherry pie crumble, coffee, trivia, door prizes and more. The event includes a special appearance by George Washington.

Guild slates Bunco ‘Carnival’ for Feb. 21

Come in from the cold to the “Casserole Carnival” at the Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s hospital’s February Bunco Party, set for noon-3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The usual fun-filled afternoon of playing Bunco with great prizes gets a special “warm up winter” menu with a choice of four casseroles homemade by guild members, plus salads and dessert. Enjoy a silent auction with 24 unique items to bid on.

Admission is $15 at the door, with all proceeds going to Seattle Children’s Hospital for uncompensated care and research.

Volunteer for Sunshine Festival

The organizing committee for the Sequim Sunshine Festival (March 6-7) is seeking volunteers to assist with festival events. There are a variety of opportunities and time-frames available. Volunteers receive a volunteer T-shirt.

Fairview Grange hosts Taco Tuesday

Fairview Grange (161 Lake Farm Road, Port Angeles) hosts an all-you-can-eat Taco Tuesday at 5 pm. on Feb. 25. The event includes a Chinese Dessert Auction at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults; children younger than 12 and accompanied by an adult are free. Dinner includes tacos, beans, rice and fixings, plus ice cream, punch, coffee and water.

Event organizers welcome dessert or new items for the auction but are not required to attend.

Money raised helps fund grange maintenance and repairs.

Genealogy workshop in Sequim

A Clallam County Genealogy Society beginners’ workshop is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Gathering Place in Sunland, 135 Fairway Dr. Participants are requested to bring their computers to the workshop.

Free dinner at Trinity United

A free community dinner is set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

The meal includes turkey, rice, gravy, vegetables, coleslaw, dessert and beverages.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling the church at 360-683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner, or by email to dinnerstumc@aol.com.

The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.

Coffee with the Mayor resumes in February

The City of Sequim Coffee with the Mayor program resumes in February. Public Works Director David Garlington joins Mayor William Armacost at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Black Bear Diner, 1471 E. Washington St. (note: this is a time change from previous Coffee with the Mayor meetings.)

The mayor will be at a published location each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the city or the community. Contact Armacost at warmacost@sequimwa.gov for more information.

KidsFest set, March 7

Sponsored by the Port Angeles Kiwanis group, KidsFest brings information and hands-on activities from multiple organizations across Clallam County for this annual event set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Vern Burton community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

The event, which also includes Clallam County Community Safety Day (sponsored by Clallam County Emergency Management), is free.
