Sequim Guild’s Holiday Bazaar

The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital is holding its 19th Annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Rd.

In addition to items handmade by Guild members, there will be more than 35 local handcraft artists and “Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen” serving chili, turkey noodle soup, focaccia rolls, and homemade desserts.

All profits go to Seattle Children’s Hospital to fund uncompensated care and research. Last year, Children’s provided over $2.6 million in uncompensated care and services to 1,277 Clallam and Jefferson County children.

DRNC Holiday Bazaar

The Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Rd., will hold its annual Holiday Nature Mart on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 23 from noon to 4 p.m.

Held the weekend before Thanksgiving, the annual tradition, begun in 2006, features hand-crafted gifts and ornaments as well as sweet and savory baked goods.

All proceeds benefit the Dungeness River Nature Center’s ongoing operations and educational programs.

Grange dessert auction

The All-Grange Dessert Auction will take place at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Guests will have the opportunity to support granges across the Olympic Peninsula by bidding on an assortment of homemade desserts, including cinnamon rolls, pies, breads and a variety of cookies, all made by community members.

Holidays and blood sugar

The Lodge at Sherwood Village, 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way in Sequim, will offer the free lecture “Holiday Treats vs. Blood Sugar: Finding the Sweet Spot” from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. RSVP by calling 360-681-3100.

With the holidays fast approaching, registered nurse Susan Sorensen will share tips for maintaining healthy blood sugar levels without missing out on the season’s favorite treats. Learn practical strategies for making smart choices and enjoying festive foods in moderation.

Serving veterans

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5 office located at the Sequim Museum administration building, 544 N. Sequim Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday to serve all veterans with claims and information.

Veterans do not have to be a member of the DAV to receive assistance.

Understanding Medicare

The Lodge at Sherwood Village, 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way in Sequim, presents “Understanding Medicare: What’s New & What’s Next” at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. The program is intended to help seniors gain clarity on their healthcare options and anticipated program updates.

This free public session will be presented by Haylee Hune, licensed insurance agent with Terrazas Agencies, alongside the company’s owners, Dawson Lorenz and Leilani Renee Limas.

Topics include: Medicare basics and key enrollment timelines; updates that may impact seniors in the coming year; plan options and how to evaluate which may fit your needs; changes related to benefits such as prescription drug costs, transportation assistance, food allowances, and dual-eligible Medicaid/Medicare plans; and tips for navigating Medicare confidently and avoiding common misunderstandings.

The session will also feature a breakout period for individual questions and personalized guidance.

Faith news

Rev. Bruce Bode will speak on the topic “Joyful Participation in the Sorrows of the World” at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road. It is a follow-up to the Oct. 19 service titled “Masks of God.”
